I knew then that I would one day pioneer such a school in England.

New Life Christian Academy
In 2010 we pioneered the New Life Christian Academy, a private school offering a Christian education for as little as £180 a month.

It has been amazing to see our school established. There is such a sense of peace, fun and joy. A bullying-free environment, where studying and sports co-exist alongside prayer and worship. The children prayed for one of the teachers at assembly the other day, and her back was instantly healed! The presence of God in assembly brings you to tears, seeing the children truly worship God!

What Does Ofsted Think?
In it’s first Ofsted report everything has been judged to be “Outstanding” or “Good” at the new school, a report that means we are already one of Hull’s leading schools – a remarkable achievement in our region. In September 2012 we open the school to senior students.

But why Christian education?
The school we send our children to, will have a massive effect on them for the rest of their lives. It is a decision every parent takes prayerfully and with investigation. To have the option of a Christian education in a city like Hull is vital.

A Christian education may not always the the right thing for every child; but some really do need the extra impact a faith school can offer. Some say “I don’t want my child to be too cushioned from the real world” and yet soon realise that there is an immense amount of pressure that any parent would want to have reduced in their child’s life.

From things as simple as swearing and bullying, to recent development in sex education and the advancing secularisation of our schools – What our children need these days is time to grow up BEFORE being hit by the flood of adult temptations and pressures. Protecting children and allowing grown up influences into their world in a measured manner, is the role of every parent and school. The New Life Christian Academy does just that.

When we started our school we said we wanted to combine the very best of state education with the very best of Christian education. We’ve done exactly that by employing a brilliant head teacher, who is running the independent school at a level we are told most independents don’t reach, because she has come to us from the state school sector senior management.

I think I had concluded that it was better to call today “it”, than expect for more.

You see, Revival had seemed strangely out of reach in my 40 years of experience. Leaders I respected stated if we only prayed a bit more, repented a bit more, lived a bit holier .. then the tantalising revival cure-all would eventually come and sweep our nation. But “it” never really came.

Years passed by, and as a leader I had come to feel I would much rather a steady improvement, a gentle growing of the Church in strength and impact, until we were indeed a glorious bride for Christ. As leader of a church, I had seen that hope, constantly deferred, makes the heart sick. Unfulfilled dreams can be a hope destroyer. Better to live today well, than expect a magic wand (revival) tomorrow!

Hence my lack of anticipation that God might simply “fall out of the sky” one day.

…& here’s where God tripped me up.

I was wrong.

Perhaps not in every sense of my thinking .. but I was wrong to think that God would/could not walk into a situation and do a “Solomon’s Glory filled Temple” job on us! Taking over the programme, overwhelming bodies, rushing through a community with salvation, healing, restoration and revival.

Here’s how it’s started to happen…

August 2011 I’m picking up some of our youth from a service and I find them utterly overwhelmed by the Spirit of God, with no human intervention. Nothing to do with the service they were in.

A few weeks later we hold a last minute event which I indadvertedly named “God Will Come Like the Rain” based on scriptures in Psalms and Hosea where God promises to literally, “COME LIKE THE RAIN”…ahem…fall out of the sky, you could say.

And that is exactly what God did. Healings, salvations, backsliders on fire for God. And atmosphere, incredible atmosphere. Like I had never known in 40 years of church life.

It was as if the smog of dull religion had been washed away in a divine rain storm! For several months God swept through our church transforming us … and the changes continue today.

As a leader who wants healthy, whole people, drawn into a grounded, loving, growing community, I had forgotten that while all that is indeed good, God is still a revolutionary mover and shaker. The lack of remarkable corporate visitation in my community had led me to reinvent my theology to fit. I thought “God doesn’t visit any more … he gently inhabits.” He doesn’t fall out of the sky, blow like a rushing wind, stir like a bubbling spring inside people. He doesn’t hang in the air over a city or region for a period of time. He might visit a person, or give us a powerful weekend … but can he literally pour out on a region for months or years in a new ways?

Perhaps I had forgotten my Church history? Because He has done all that repeatedly in the last 2000 years. In fact, almost every revolutionary development in Church life and growth, has been accompanied by a visitation of God’s presence.

We can be in danger of making God a Jedi-like force that we just tap in to, rather than someone who see’s, interacts, dances, hugs, spins, shouts, whispers, roars, rains and shines. Yes, they are all scriptural pictures of God and they reveal His Ways. He moves in VARIOUS ways, at various times, in various places … differently. Uniquely. Not equally.

And God will visit us in fresh history-making ways, as he did in Wesley’s day, the Welsh revival, Azusa Street, Argentina, China. While He is always moving, He also still bursts on the scene in controversial power, in geographical locations, at chronological times, usually annoying the “mainstream” and igniting the edges.

And so in these years to come, again and again, rainstorms of God’s power will pour out in locations, for seasons. Whether your theology or experience fits that or not. It’s happening. Globally. As sure as spring follows winter, moves of God will ebb & flow across the world.

Joshua chapter one is often quoted and preached at the start of a new year or new venture, but God’s command to Joshua to be strong, courageous & careful seems more apt than ever as we cross the threshold into 2012. The instruction to “Be strong” seems of huge import, and yet so many Christians seem determined to make weakness fashionable. We are experts at it! The command to BE STRONG almost intimidates some of us.

But in our obvious weakness there must be a determination to find God’s good strength to lift us to better days. Here are 7 ways to stay strong in 2012:

1. Keep Smiling. Nehemiah 8:10 “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” is as true as ever. I find it soooo easy to get miserbale, intense, dissapointed, impatient = weak. But really you should enjoy the moment you are in. Be present. Suck the juice out of life and SMILE. If you get like me and wonder who the miserable old git in the mirror is, purposefully slap a smile on that face. It’s an act of immense faith. And it’s so good for your health.

2. Stay in Grace. So many genuinely, lovely Christians spend way too much time feeling guilty, shameful, wishing they were so much more. But “there is a river whose streams make glad the city of God”, a river of grace for you and me. Psalms 30:7 states “When you favoured me, my mountain stood firm”. LET HIM favour you; it’ll make you strong. Stop feeling like you wear God’s grace out. Have a conscience, but don’t be exhausted by an oversensitive one, that will not forgive you for things done or left undone, even after repentance. Stay in the place where grace is exalted. Let mercy triumph over judgement.

3. Be Confident! Isaiah 30:15 says “in quietness & confidence (trust) is your strength”. Sometimes we need to not give in to the feeling of insecruty. We need to instruct our soul “be confident in God”. Stand a little taller. Smile a little broader. Whisper some good Bible promises to ourselves in our low moments, to posture our lives with godly confidence. God likes it (Heb 11:6).

4. Get your God moments. “Those who wait upon the Lord shall exchange strengths with Him” states Isaiah 40:29. Even Jesus needed His God-moments, disappearing up mountains to find intimate, prayerful, minutes of divine exchange. Where and when are your moments? Plan them. Guard them. God isn’t dissapointed in you when you miss prayer – He is disappointed FOR you. You’ve missed a moment that will cause you to be strong, today. And don’t compete with others in prayer – Just find what works for you and stick to it!

5. Be Filled with Power. Ephesians 6:10 “Be strong in the power of His might”. God loves to clothe us in divine energy, authority and ability. Without His divine presence in our lives, we really have nothing to give. To a generation of church goers to whom Pentecost is a distant memory, I would emplore you to become hungry again to be awash with His glory, as was the early church. The result? A small handful of weakling disciples turned the world upside down!

6. Be authentic. God loves you, made you, designed you before the world began. And His power rests most fully on you being you – never you impersonating anyone else. So discover the divine blueprint God has for you and start to be comfortable in the skin you’re in. It brings such strength. Psalm 139 shows us all your days were written before any of them came to be: That means God was an author before He was a Creator. His favourite subject? YOU. Meditate on the joy of being you – and be thankful.

7. Be weak to be strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 makes it clear that our pathway to strength is in weakness. The authentic vunerability of honesty regarding our weakness, draws God into our lives. Humility is a magnet to grace (He gives grace to the humble), pride a rejection of His help. We don’t revel in sinfulness, but we laugh about our vulnerable inabilities. Then it gives God such glory when we succeed!

Let’s make 2012 the year of the STRONG. Weakness is sooo last year.

1. The “great” can feel it: The Queen states “Jesus wasn’t a Philosopher …. but a Saviour who came to forgive our sins”. The Prime Minister calls for the Anglican Church to spearhead a revival of Christian morality. When the prophets are the Queen and the Prime Minister, something’s going on!
2. There’s never been so many miracles. Everywhere I go in our region pastors are telling me of cancer patients healed, tumours disappearing, deaf ears opening, long term sick recovering. From small things to life changing miracles, I’ve never seen so many miracles in this region. We long for so much more, but we are in so much more than we’ve ever known!
3. The Unsaved are Drawn: Once again God is bringing people to church buildings and they are saying things like “I’m not sure why I’m here!” They then get saved. When the Spirit Himself is drawing people to church, you know the heavens are pregnant with purpose.
4. Backsliders on fire! I’ve never known the luke warm burst into blaze like the last 6 months! It is so easy to get bogged down with so much in life, but I’ve seen so many friends starting to burn with a passion for the real things of God. Quiet Christians getting passionate. The trendy becoming divine troublemakers! This is God and God alone!
5. The 100 Year Prophecy: The Prophets of Old are speaking; William Seymour, leader of the Azuza Street revival stated 100 years ago, that in 100 years, a greater revival than Azuza Street would be at work in the world. We’re in that time frame!
6. The Word & Spirit Prophecy: Smith Wigglesworth prophesied that after two moves of God (one came to pass in the Anglican renewal, the second in the house church movement) the third would be a coming together of people of Word and Spirit, and this would lead to the greatest move of God the world has seen, eclipsing even the Welsh and Wesley revivals. I have never known people of Word orientation and Spirit orientation come together like they are in forums right across the nation. This is that time!
7. An anointing to Pray. I have never known passion flow from heaven in prayer services like it has done this year. Over the last 9 months there has been a bubbling, growing, passionate cry to God once again for revival. Something is going on as God draws us to pray.
8. Moves of God among the young. Since last summer there has been the sense of the Spirit of God moving among young people. I have seen our youth overwhelmed by God’s Spirit in ways I have rarely seen among the young. They have simply been totally overcome by God’s power.
9. Jean Darnells Communicators prophecy, about the advent of British Christian broadcasting, is coming to pass. She speaks of the fires of a move of God, including young communicators, carrying a move of God from the UK to Europe. Never has the media been so open to Christian things. The table is set. The channels for His glory to flow through is in place. God is about to pour out the new wine into this new wineskin!
10. Days of Wonder In 1996 I experienced the glory of God and He showed me his power moving in the UK and Europe, in parliament, the royal family. He showed me city centres where God’s power was moving in miracles and healings. Stadiums were turned into church buildings. Countless thousands getting saved. God said “The greatest auditoriums in the land will be filled” and he showed me people experiencing His glory. I saw City Halls and theatres used not just for prayer services or Christian concerts, but as places where there was outpourings of His power and Glory, miracles and healings.

For me, booking the Hull City Hall this year 8-10 March 2012 for a revival gathering, where we expect His glory to pour out, miracles to take place, the lame to walk, the deaf to hear … this is all a fulfilment of prophecy. THIS IS THE SEASON OF FULFILMENT!

The 10 clouds are forming together into a great brooding rain storm of God’s glory, ready to wash our land again as in the days of Wesley, Jeffreys and Roberts. Let’s live well, pray well, keep integrity, as we seek to walk with God through these days of wonder. Moves of God, (revival some would call it), is not a “cure all”, not the beginning of Utopia, but rather an increased release of the Kingdom of God on the earth, that you and I would walk “revived”, fully awake to ALL He wishes to do in us and through us.

Like Elijah…. Let’s prepare to run in God’s power!
